Born in Meknes, Morocco. Lives and works in Marrakech, Morocco.

After architecture studies in Paris, Ghizlane returned to Morocco and settled in Marrakesh.

Enthused by embroideries and tissues, she decided to open a workshop working with textiles, assisted by local artisans.

Ghizlane florished in this world of tissue during 7 years, and hence developed a certain vision of it. She received the Prize for Creation at the « Trophée Couleurs » in 2009.

In 2012, following the creation of a dress made from waste (trash bags, jerricans, plastic bottles), produced for the Marrakech Mag (a local cultural magazine), Ghizlane decided to close her embroidery workshop and focus on pure artistic creation.

With her sister and two photographer friends, she formed the Zbel Manifesto collective, which works essentially with waste. The collective appeared at the Marrakesh Biennale in 2014, presenting an installation, « Pimp My Garbage ». They were thereafter invited to participate in the inaugural exposition of the Mohamed VI Museum in Rabat.

Today Ghizlane continues her work with the help of local artisan women. Together they seek new ways of working with silk thread. She has developed « the Alveoles », three-dimensional embroidery, made from the tops of used bottles, covered with silk thread.

She imagines poetic, dream-like worlds where she can experiment and create bridges between her three passions, space and volume, stemming from her architecture studies, silk thread, from her involvement with embroidery, and the environment, from her personal interrogations regarding durable development and the future of the planet.

She enjoys transforming material, subliming it and giving it meaning.

Ghizlane Sahli is represented by David Bloch Gallery in Marrakesh , Primo Marella Gallery in Milano, Sulger Buel Gallery in London, Sakhile&Me in Frankfurt, Firetti Contemporary in Dubai and Lakum art space in Riyadh.

Her work is part of the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London and the collection of the Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden  (MACAAL) in Marrakech.

Après des études en Architecture à Paris, Ghizlane rentre au Maroc et s’installe à Marrakech.

Passionnée de broderies et de tissus, elle décide d’ouvrir un atelier de création textile, où elle s’entoure d’artisans.

Ghizlane a baigné dans cet univers pendant sept ans et a ainsi développé un regard certain sur ce monde du fil qui la passionne. Elle a reçu le prix de la création aux « Trophée Couleurs » en 2009.

En 2012, suite à la création d’une robe faite à partir de déchets (sacs poubelles, bidons, bouteilles plastiques) réalisé pour le Marrakech Mag. Ghizlane décide de fermer son atelier de broderie et de se consacrer à la création artistique pure.

Elle forme avec sa sœur et deux amis photographes le collectif Zbel Manifesto qui travaille essentiellement avec des déchets. Le collectif se produit à la biennale de Marrakech 2014, en présentant une installation « Pimp my garbage ». Ils sont ensuite invités à participer à l’exposition inaugurale du musée Mohamed VI à Rabat.

Aujourd’hui Ghizlane poursuit ses travaux avec l’aide de femmes artisans. Elles recherchent ensemble des nouvelles pratiques pour manier le fil de soie. Elle a ainsi développé « les Alvéoles », broderie tridimensionnelle, faite à partir de fonds de bouteilles de plastique issus de déchets, recouverts de fils de soie.

Elle imagine des mondes poétiques et oniriques où elle peut expérimenter et créer des ponts entre ses trois passions, l’espace et les volumes, issu de sa formation d’architecte, le fil de soie, issu de son immersion dans le monde de la broderie et l’environnement, issu de ses questionnements sur le développement durable et l'avenir de la planète.

Elle se plait ainsi à transformer la matière, à l'exulter et à lui donner du sens.
